Kiya was selected to perform at opening day of the Kerrville Folk Festival. She was selected out of 537 entries to be one of the Texas songwriters at the Ballad Tree Regional Showcase 3-5 pm.

Kiya's new solo CD Bold Swimmer is out. The CD has an Americana soul sound and features the playing and production of Mark Hallman. Mark played most of the backing tracks with additional guitar work by Andre Moran and Kiya on vocals, guitar and banjo. You can hear the CD by clicking the audio player on the homepage.

The final touches to the new solo CD , Bold Swimmer are happening this week. We move into mixing and mastering after Weds. The CD will be available by January. We can't wait for everyone to hear it!

We had a very successful Kickstarter campaign and the new CD is in the works. Kiya has been in the studio with Mark Hallman last week and  is working more this week. More updates as we progress. The new solo Cd is entitled, "Bold Swimmer" after a line from Walt Whitman's Song of Myself poem. The CD has ten new Kiya penned tracks as well as a cover of a Nina Simone classic.

Stealin Horses will be performing in Clemsford, England on March 4th. Kiya was the former lead singer and songwriter for the band. Stealin Horses was signed to Arista records, released two CD's, had a video on MTV, a top 40 hit, and toured with bands such as James Brown, Rank and File, Wang Chung, Stray Cats, and The Smithereens. Kiya will be joining former Horses Kopana Terry and Jon Durno.

 Our Wishing Chair concert in Villanova originally scheduled for 1/8 has been moved to next Sat 1/15 due to the snow conditions in the Philly and NJ area.

Wishing Chair has won two Pride in the Arts Awards for 2010. WC won Favorite Group and Favorite CD categories for " Stand Up Eight."

The Dec 3 and 5th shows at UU Congregation of Princeton were a huge success. All three shows were sold out and over one hundred people attended the dinner on Sunday.Pictures and video coming soon!

The latest production of Lying to the Sea Gypsy will be Dec 3rd at 7:30 pm and Dec 5th at 5:30 and 8 pm 2010.

All three shows are at the Fahs Theater at the UU Congregation of Princeton.

The Philadelphia Women's Choir, Anna Crusis will be performing three pieces from Weave and Spin Nov 13th  8 pm and 14th 4 pm at the UU Church of Germantown in Philadelphia.Wishing Chair will also perform. More information at:

Kiya has been commissioned  by UUCP's Music Director, Majorie Herman to write another performance art worship service for Martin Luther King day and a piece for the Spring Sacred Feminine Celebration. She will also be mounting a November production of Lying to the Sea Gypsy and an Earth Day Gaia Psalms celebration. The job includes arrangements for the children's and bell choir as well.

Kiya received her B.A. in Music Composition from Converse College this May. She  finished her course work in December 2009 and is currently in the M.M. program at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ.

Wishing Chair is one of four acts performing for the Q Fest 10th Anniversary show at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago this Saturday May 15th. More on the calendar page.

Three songs from the operetta, Lying to the Sea Gypsy will be featured March 26th at the Chapman Center in Spartanburg, SC. The benefit is to raise capital for the Spartanburg Repertory Company. WC partner Miriam Davidson will be there as music director.More details on the calendar page.

"Lying to the Sea Gypsy" is a children's operetta that is approximately 45 minutes in length. It was written by Kiya Heartwood, a Converse College senior.

The performances will be held at the Hazel B. Abbott Theatre on the Converse College campus. The performances are free to the public so reservations will not be taken. Tickets will be issued one hour prior to the performance times:
Thursday, January 28th at 7:00 pm
Friday, January 29th at 7:00 pm
Saturday, January 30th at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm

I have been accepted into the Master of Music Program in Music Composition at Westminster Choir College here in Princeton,NJ. I start classes on January 25th.
